172: DIAGRAM __ erasure special issue________21 November, 2016

well hello post-apocalyptic dystopian wasteland futuremadmaxamericuhhhhh! “they kilt us but they ain’t whupped us” etc? more faulkner? sometimes one is not enough. in fact, i would go so far as to say that in our great country, one is rarely enough. the more the better. i try not to get political on here, but in the words of that guy’s post-election sign in new york: “i’m not usually a sign guy, but jeez.” for now let’s all go back to our huts and call our congressman a few times.

there is some good news. i have two stories up in the latest extra-special edition of DIAGRAM, entitled “erasure”. DIAGRAM has long been one of my favorite lit mags. there aren’t enough publications that support experimental literature in this world. ninth letter, DIAGRAM, fence … i’m probably leaving out a few idols, but you know what i mean. and i must admit that DIAGRAM was on my radar before even the mighty conjunctions. so read the rest of the mag if you have time — pure gold through and through.

164: seattle | palouse | coulee | rainier: there & back again________10 June, 2015

hello sir, madam, or thing,

the summary of the summary of the summary is: people are a problem. okay, now i’ve gotten all my HHGTTG GATTACA ABBA BRB LOL ASDFs out, i can focus on the new and exciting things. you know what’s exciting but not at all new?

YES. the puget sound.

this and much more on future episodes of … this blog! there will be pictures of sheep. there will be pictures of mountains. there will be pictures of “cool but gritty neighborhoods” that are “played out.” there may or may not be pictures of angora rabbits. oh, and you should go check out okey panky on 6/15. because that’s when my new minicomic will be up! it’s called “MEAT.” obviously you should go there before then because they have lots of other cool people writing things like hey sharma shields or stephen dixon or yumi sakugawa, but i just thought i’d mention that.

also i am going to grad school for fiction … and getting paid to do it. these are words that i never thought would be coming out of my word-hole, but there they are! i will really really miss all the great people and things and buildings at and surrounding ARO. i’ve been hugely lucky to spend almost four years working at one of the best firms in new york city. and i don’t think this is the end for me & architecture; more like a coda — just for whatever that’s worth.

other current projects: some prose stories, possible return to certain comics endeavors, editing all mah trip photos, attempting to reenter currency in my correspondences. hope y’all are doing well!

163: MEAT minicomic, psychopomp competition, liminal________5 May, 2015

hey all,

looks like i’ve been my usual delinquent self in re: updating. it’s hard to keep current, you know? or to keep currant. (they’re very small. “is that a mole, or a raisin? mmm, edible mole.” -bob’s burgers.) yeahhh, so what’s new? read some great books: asterios polyp (terrific art style with a heavy philosophical bent, some might argue too much), for the relief of unbearable urges (great book of honestly-storyish short stories by nathan englander; varying though consistently high levels of jewishness), fourth of july creek (beach book for the intellectually inclined? violence porn for the emotionally dead-inside? a confusing thing?). i’ve only barely started making inroads on my pile of accumulated literature, so don’t look now, i guess. but those are some things.

other things: “MEAT” (the minicomic) is finished and looks like it will have a home in the solar system of literary publications! that’s exciting. it’s looking to be published on june 15, so please check back around then and i’ll have a link up. i’ve also worked on some short stories. i mostly haven’t sent out short stories to places, but i did send “haptics” into psychopomp magazine’s annual competition. and i was a semifinalist! so that’s cool. check out the winning entries on the site, if you like.

now that the thaw has set in a bit, i’ve also started to make small updates to liminal now and again. last week i sojourned out to the garment district and shot a few photos there. you can take a look at those and keep all caught up, if you like. finally, i’m working on an illustration commission for a magazine cover that i hope will see the light of day in july. a little sketch on that below (not going to be used for the final thing). keep your eyes peeled for more on that as well.

hope you guys are keeping well!
